Fine 19th century Chinese export chest of mother-of-pearl inlaid with rosewood, opening to a hinged mirror and revealing an arrangement of five small drawers and swing compartments, brass handles and fittings.
This is a genuine quality Chinese hardwood mirror box and not to be confused with cheap stained wood or painted later pieces. It is made of heavy, richly colored hardwood that has a mild patina on both the wood and the metal handles and other fittings. The inlay is made of mother of pearl.
