Lohar folding knife from Afghanistan with bone handle.
The knife comes from the Banochie, a tribe in Afghanistan who live near the Khyber Pass.
The Lohar was developed by the Banochie tribe, which belongs to the Khyber tribes. In addition to being a weapon, it is also a status symbol for the wearer. Each man of the tribe makes his own lohar and provides it with his own decoration and personal signs.
The handle is ornamented with brass, lapis lazuli, wood, bone or mother-of-pearl. The whole lohar is made of steel and is sometimes decorated with symbols all over its face. Some lohars are designed in such a way that the blade and handle can be folded towards the handle.
