Rare unique piece of artisan production based on an antique model (Kalagas) from Burma.
Kalagas are traditional Burmese wall hangings. Kalagas are elaborately handcrafted using metal sequins, glass beads, mirror stones, gold and silver braided threads, cotton and often velvet.
Trapunt style work is a form of applique in which the appliquéd pieces of fabric are stuffed with horsehair or cotton waste. So that a high relief pattern is created. The three-dimensional effect can be additionally emphasized with structured embroidery stitches and sewn-on threads.
Kalagas from Burma, worked in the middle on black velvet bordered with fabric from the discarded peacock and elephant robes. The pictures of animals are padded and decorated with sewn cords, glass pins, sequins and metal threads.
