The present piece from Azerbaijan shows a very characteristic drawing. It is distributed over a wide area with scattered villages around Cuba.
The pattern has been used for at least a century on oblong pieces that are striking for their vibrant brilliant colors. What they all have in common is a border of floral motifs and/or malelike zigzag lines, as in the present piece.

Kilims were and are used by the nomads as floor coverings. They insulate against the cold and are also decorative pieces. Small pieces are the prayer rugs, also tent curtains, bags, cushions are made from it.
*Real oriental carpets differ fundamentally from mass-produced goods knotted in manufactories. Each piece is hand-knotted and unique! Irregularities in shape, color or material are no reason for complaint. These properties make each individual kilim a collector's item and underline the authenticity of the goods.
