Very rare and unique and very finely hand-woven antique nomad kilim from northern Afghanistan. (Tribe Tatars)

Produced: First third of the 20th century.
Warp: Strong wool yarn, light natural, handspun.
Pattern weft: wool yarn, handspun,
Weaving technique: stripe palas, in between narrow zigzag rows in Nagashabaf technique.

Kilims were and are used by the nomads as floor coverings. They insulate against the cold and are also decorative pieces. Small pieces are the prayer rugs, also tent curtains, bags, cushions are made from it.
*Real oriental carpets differ fundamentally from mass-produced goods knotted in manufactories. Each piece is hand-knotted and unique! Irregularities in shape, color or material are no reason for complaint. These properties make each individual kilim a collector's item and underline the authenticity of the goods.
