In the oasis city of Bukhara, the craftsmanship of the specialized copper and brass smiths who had their workshops in the bazaars reached its peak in the 19th century. In a pronounced division of labor, the most varied of vessel shapes were made, which could be found in every Uzbek household. The harmonious interplay of function, form and decoration gives these vessels their undisputed artistic status. Pots with a spout that fits tightly to the vessel are always used as teapots. Vessels with curved spouts that often rise up serve as water vessels for ritually as well as profanely rinsing the hands. They have always been used in conjunction with hand basins.
