Ancient Turkmen spindle bag, Yomut tribes, Trans-Caspian Steppe, Turkmenistan, Central Asia.
Spinning bags, as the name suggests, were used to hold wooden spindles for spinning the wool.
This charming bag was made by the Yomut Turkmen in the Trans-Caspian steppes of Turkmenistan between 1890 and 1900. It is in excellent condition with a beige plain weave back and original tassels decorating the sides symbolizing 'Good Luck'.

Genuine, oriental carpets are fundamentally different from mass-produced goods from the Far East. Each piece is hand-knotted and unique!
