Handwoven traditional raw silk scarf, silk scarf from Laos
In Luangprabang in the north of Laos, in the province of Champasak around the town of Pakxe, there is an old tradition of silk weaving. In villages that are difficult to reach, women weavers produce beautiful silk scarves from hand-spun raw silk, especially during the rainy season. Each cloth is unique, so there may be color differences. The natural irregularities of the raw silk combine in the process of weaving by hand to create a wonderfully lively material.
In Luangprabang in northern Laos, silk fabrics used to be woven exclusively for the royal court. During the socialist revolution in the 1970s, the royal family in Laos was wiped out and the weaving trade disappeared with it. Due to the timid tourism that has set in in Laos in recent years, interest in this old handicraft is growing again. Our "royal cloths" reflect the skills of the Laotian weavers. Elaborately woven patterns and structures are partly woven with two finest silk threads of different colors, creating a wonderfully iridescent sheen. The silk used is handspun and is particularly fine. With this cloth you acquire a truly royal hand-woven unique piece. The scarf can be worn in both summer and winter, as silk is a temperature-regulating material. The cloth is also suitable for decoration on the wall or on the table as a runner.
